Title:
Open Anti-Paladin/Paladin to All
Current Rule, as written today, with Rules of Play page numbers for reference. (If Applicable):
ROP Pg 2:
Reeves are the judges or referees of the game, and are recognized by the gold sash that they wear on the field.
ROP Pg 45:
Anti-Paladin
These are the standard bad guys of legend. Almost any
adversary in a stock fantasy movie can qualify as an AntiPaladin,
but historical cases abound – ranging from Vlad
Dracul’s persecution of Turkish prisoners to Mongol warlords
boiling opposing chieftains alive.
Examples: The Kurgan, Mordred, the Black Knight,
the Nazgul, Sir Francis Dashwood
Garb: White belt and an openly displayed black phoenix
on clothing or armor.
Requirements: Must be a knight.
Look The Part: Awe 1/life (m)
Armor: 4pts
Shields: Large
Weapons: All Melee, javelins
ROP Pg 46:
Paladin
The perfect good guy comes to save the day. Paladins exist
in the myths and legends of all cultures. Be it the Geatlander
Beowulf slaying Grendel or the Norse god Thor battling
the Midgaard Serpent, Paladins have been with us since
prehistory.
Examples: Joan of Arc, Galahad, King Arthur, Roland,
Percival, Don Quixote, Arcite, Phocion, Dietrich
von Bern
Garb: White belt and a white phoenix device openly
displayed on armor or clothing.
Requirements: Must be a knight.
Look The Part: Awe 1/Life (m)
Armor: 4pts
Shields: Large
Weapons: All Melee, Javelins
Proposed change, as you would see it written:
ROP Pg 2:
Reeves are the judges or referees of the game, and are recognized by the gold tunic, headband, or armband that they wear on the field.
ROP Pg 45:
Inquistor
These are the standard bad guys of legend. Almost any
adversary in a stock fantasy movie can qualify as an Inquisitor,
but historical cases abound – ranging from Vlad
Dracul’s persecution of Turkish prisoners to Mongol warlords
boiling opposing chieftains alive.
Examples: The Kurgan, Mordred, the Black Knight,
the Nazgul, Sir Francis Dashwood
Garb: Gold sash
Look The Part: Awe 1/life (m)
Armor: 4pts
Shields: Large
Weapons: All Melee, javelins
ROP Pg 46:
Crusader
The perfect good guy comes to save the day. Crusaders exist
in the myths and legends of all cultures. Be it the Geatlander
Beowulf slaying Grendel or the Norse god Thor battling
the Midgaard Serpent, Crusaders have been with us since
prehistory.
Examples: Joan of Arc, Galahad, King Arthur, Roland,
Percival, Don Quixote, Arcite, Phocion, Dietrich
von Bern
Garb: Silver sash
Look The Part: Awe 1/Life (m)
Armor: 4pts
Shields: Large
Weapons: All Melee, Javelins
**While not a part of the Rules of Play, our recommendation would be changing Monster Sashes to Pink**
Reason this change would benefit Amtgard, as part of the V8 Rules:
Anti-Paladin and Paladin are unlocked for Battlegame play by becoming a Knight. Knighthood largely is not gained through Battlegame action, so it seems inappropriate to keep these ability sets locked behind a gate the majority of the game will never see.
Additionally, this is being submitted with the stated problem that these classes are held from the majority playerbase behind awards and that is inappropriate. While some have requested that these classes still be "unlockable", I think once you accept the fact that the classes are no better, worse, or more complex than the others, it is clear that no bar need to be held for achieving the right to play these classes. Furthermore, I find any attempt to implement a bar based on awards to be a step backward and merely seek to make the elite few an elite "slightly more than few".
If you read this suggestion, you will see we have removed the icons of Knighthood from the classes completely. Garb requirements have lost the Phoenix and White belt, and the names of the classes have been changed to be more general and less "Knightly" in overtone.
A gold sash was chosen for Inquisitors (formerly Anti-Paladins), as they have some crossover abilities with Wizard, so thematically I felt the sashes being linked in color makes sense. Silver, likewise, was chosen for Crusaders (formerly Paladins), due to their shared abilities (conceptually) with Monks.
In regards to removing sashes from Reeves, our natural reaction to someone without equipment and a sash is not to hit them, so it keeps the Reeves safe still.
