Title:
Declarations for State Endings
Current Rule, as written today, with Rules of Play page numbers for reference. (If Applicable):
There is no wording requiring or suggesting this or anything similar.
(Pg 51 under States Defined)
"A State may have a duration, after which it expires."
Proposed change, as you would see it written:
(Pg 54 under States Defined)
A State may have a duration, after which it expires. {If a State with a Duration ends the player it affected must declare "No longer [State that ended], unless that State was removed by death. This must be audible out to 20 feet.} If a player would gain a State they are already affected by, the State’s duration should simply be adjusted to the new duration if it is longer than the current duration.
Reason this change would benefit Amtgard, as part of the V8 Rules:
This change is in line with the "no surprises" ideology that most of the rule-book was written with.
It prevents players from getting cheap or "surprise" kills by coming out of a State like Frozen suddenly. This also helps the game flow more smoothly and forces players on a system of communication.
This change is meant to be similar to how declaring enchantments and special effects periodically are required.

Yeah, I don't see any reasonable way this one doesn't move forward.

This is already in play for certain states, like a Scout's exiting Insubstantial. Making in an across the board announcement seems logical.

I think this proposal should be changed from "If a State expires due to its Duration ending, the player it affected..." to clarify that if a player is removed from a duration-based state by another effect, they don't have to declare the state ended.

I hadn't considered the wording in that instance. I think your wording is slightly better. My intent was to only include States expiring naturally, and your wording effectuates that.
