Greetings, folks!
Althing submissions for December 21st at NOON are now open!
Current items on the agenda for voting are:
*
Items to be discussed, but not voted on:
*Corpora re-write *Going over the proposed floating crown corpora by Sai Bowen and looking at the data sets from the past two Kingdom-wide PM elections *Looking at designs for a future crown for GV and ways in which we can raise the funds for it. *Proposing a Kingdom-wide vote that would allow ALL active players to vote prior to Clan on V8. Discussion of said vote binding on our monarch/representative at Clan for V8 vote. Exact dates up for discussion, but it should be close to the Clan date.
This is the only official thread for submissions, so please make them here and nowhere else.

Would like to propose a kingdom wide vote that would allow ALL active players to vote prior to Clan on V8. Would further like to make said vote binding on our monarch/representative at Clan for V8 vote. Exact dates up for discussion, but it should be close to the Clan date.

I would like to put forward the suggestion that we drop the Bitter Coast/CG/Barony business. At this point we are threatening a sponsored group who has done nothing wrong except remain a part of our Kingdom while other groups left/fell apart. They are aware that if we go Roving Crown it likely won't change much for them as far as how they interact with us, but we have crossed a line from trying to help, to negatively treating our sponsored land.

That was my idea moving forward. I have already been given well enough reason from the members of BC through email that joining CG is not the right decision for them and that there is a unanimously held feeling that the populace would rather remain a part of GV, in any form, than to join Crystal Groves.

That sounds reasonable at this point. Even if it were objectively the best decision for the park all other things aside, such resistance would ruin any effort. I'm disappointed that the rift seems to run so deep that BC will continue to be marginalized by choice of rock vs. hard place, but now that I've seen specifics for players' personal reasons to stay, I can't blame them.
I still think that there is worth to putting together an application package to get a definite answer from CG on sponsorship level, etc. If nothing else, it is solid information that can be referenced in the future.

The current monarch of Crystal Groves is planning on attending our althing. We can identify issues important to our players and for the region and even open a dialogue without officially submitting a request, I do hope. I am not sure why you are stuck on that point.

Saturday, May 3rd is the Nashua MS walk. The first time we did this we had a really good turn out (15-20 people in garb with hand outs that we gave out). Since then, not so good. So we should start planning and getting people pumped up now. And we should make it some kind of contest with a prize to get people motivated.

I'm stuck on it because it is a clear-cut, black-and-white request with a clear-cut, black-and-white answer. If the same facts can be gotten between BC and CG without submitting an application, excellent. An application is the only way I know (per Hitorimono, apologies if I misunderstood) that guarantees a solid answer- do whatever works. As to why I believe the information should be available, there may come a time in the foreseeable future when the issues that BC has with CG have been resolved. I think that having an idea of what is likely to be on offer at that point is a good place to start.

That's sort of what I figured. You may want to talk to some of the Goldenvale Prime Ministers about when a group petitions, particularly when they have been turned down, are a splinter group or there is some other drama. If this were our first petition I probably would go that route. However we have to deal with an unusual sitiation.
Also, and this is very important, my park voted no, so under what authority would I or anyone else begin that process? Because the PM of CG says he won't answer questions for your players until you do still doesn't mean I can ignore those votes. Plus it seems like an very strange interpretation of the role of a kingdom officer.
As far as I am aware, you do not have to formally petition to invite someone to an althing or begin discussions. Civil communication, delivered honestly, even when parties disagree is better than telling someone you won't give them an answer that you really can't give anyway - as the whole of CG would have to vote. All he could do is make predictions as to whether we would be accepted and at what status without a formal vote, right?
I can't for the life of me see how petitioning CG now would help hold us to any terms that aren't spelled out in the TaCa or Corpora. I can see that if we work to build an atmosphere of trust, we don't have to worry about holding anyone to promises made by a previous monarchy. (Assuming we are interested in a long transition).

^ I would be very much for opening a dialogue about that, Fredrik.

I think that having an idea of what is likely to be on offer at that point is a good place to start. To be clear, our althing results were that we'd prefer to stay with GV. If that was not possible, we'd prefer to be with CG than a freehold. If it is the stance by the monarchy of CG that they will only engage with a group to answer questions after they have submitted an application then I'd say that is a divergence from past precedence. But cutting to the chase all this discussion is doing right now is reinforcing bad feelings on both sides. The people in CG are having their feelings hurt because we keep expressing that at this time we're not interested in their kingdom. It's gotta feel somewhat insulting to them whether they admit it or not. We aren't at a point where we feel confident in them (again, saying this is going to upset them) but we're feeling pushed to a decision we don't want to make which is going to make us frustrated and defensive. The best approach would be to let this issue die down for now and give a chance for the hurt feelings to heal a bit. We have new monarchy taking office at our park in 2 weeks. If you want an estimate on when I think we could petition them, I'd say a possible time frame is sometime in 2015.

Along side the MS walk thing was something that happened this weekend. A guy (random dude who saw us from the street) came up asking if were "that medieval group" and when I responded that we were, he said he read about us in the paper and that we should march in "the parade". When I asked which parade (thinking one was coming up) he said "any of them". I know Boreal Dale does this and I did it back in Texas too. It's a good idea and it would probably be a lot of fun. Good publicity and some camaraderie building to boot. I don't know what parades are locally held, but we should look into participating in them. We need more publicity as part of our general recruitment efforts.

Also just to clarify, this is to start at what time? I know we moved our field start time to Noon, but there was talk about different ideas of when Althings should start (some earlier, some later) so a clarification on when you planning on starting this would be handy.

I am not in favor, at this time, of changing from our normal setup. Althing will begin at Noon, with a slight bit of wiggle room to allow for any stragglers.

Last week I mentioned the possibility of moving it indoors. I'm assuming that is not in the cards for this month, but I think we should consider it for January and February.
